Privacy Policy

Welcome to Selective Teacher. Selective Teacher is an exam practice app that sets mathematics, reading and reasoning questions, marks your answers, and explains where you went wrong. It is published by HeyGhoshi, an independent Australian app studio.

This page is the privacy policy for Selective Teacher only. Our other apps publish their own policies, because each of them handles data differently — the legal index links to all of them. What follows describes exactly what this app does.

The app can build a practice scene from a question, explain an answer, and read a question aloud. Those parts run on our servers, which pass the request to an AI provider. Depending on the feature, what we send is the text of the question, the text of your answer, or the photograph itself.

• What is sent: the text of the question and your answer, or the photograph of the question when you ask for a feature that works from the picture.
• Reading a photograph: getting the words out of a photograph happens on your device, using Apple's text recognition. The photograph itself is sent only when you ask for a feature that needs the picture — for example building a scene from it.
• Reading aloud: the text to be narrated is sent to our servers and the audio comes back to your device to play. No microphone is used — the app does not listen to you.
• Who receives it: a third-party AI service, acting on our instructions. Which provider handles a request can change over time, and this page stays current.
• What is never sent: your name, email address, contact list, advertising identifier, device location, or any other app's data.
• Fair-use counting: our servers keep a monthly count of AI requests against the device's anonymous identifier so the limit can be enforced. That record is a number, not your questions.

Because AI feedback is generated for a single request and is not attached to an account, there is no stored history of your requests for us to hold, sell, or disclose.

Your progress, question history, bookmarks and results are stored on your device. There is no cloud copy of your study record — nothing about how you are doing is sent to us.

• Progress and statistics live in the app's own on-device database.
• Reading the words out of a photograph happens on your device, and we do not keep the photograph.
• If you back up your device through iCloud Backup or Android system backup, your local Selective Teacher data follows your system backup settings.
• Deleting the Selective Teacher app permanently erases your local progress unless you have exported it first.

Selective Teacher does not ask for your name, your email address, or a password. There is no sign-up. What it does have is an anonymous device identity, and this section explains what that is and why it exists.

What we hold

• An anonymous identifier — a random number issued to the app on first launch. It is not your name, not your email address, and not a device serial number, and it is never shown to another user.
• A monthly AI request count, kept against that identifier so the fair-use limit can be enforced.
• Ownership of anything you share — a shared question is linked to this identifier, which is what allows you to take your own share down again and allows a moderator to act on a repeat offender.

What we do not collect

• your name, email address, phone number or date of birth — we never ask;
• a login, password or social profile — there is no sign-up;
• your practice results, answers or progress — those stay on your device;
• your contacts, location or microphone;
• your advertising identifier — we do not ask for tracking permission in this app.

Selective Teacher lets you share a question you have made so that other children can practise with it. It is the one feature that publishes something of yours, so it is deliberately kept narrow.

What a shared question contains

• the photograph of the question, re-encoded by the app so that its metadata — including where it was taken — is stripped before upload;
• a small thumbnail;
• the generated content you chose to share: the question and its correct answers;
• the anonymous identifier of the device that shared it, so you can take it down and a moderator can act on reports.

What it never contains

• your name, or any display name or profile — a share carries no author identity;
• your practice results, your answers, or how you have been doing;
• your email address or any contact detail;
• your location: the app removes the photograph's embedded location data before uploading.

You can withdraw a share at any time and it disappears from the feed. Other people can report a question, and enough reports hide it from every child automatically, without waiting for a moderator. If a report is upheld the content is removed, and the share cannot be published again.

If something goes wrong you can send us a report from inside the app. It is the only place the app sends us text that you typed, so here is exactly what goes with it.

• the title and description you write;
• a screenshot, if you choose to attach one;
• technical detail about what failed, so we can reproduce it: the app version, the device platform, and a diagnostic record of what the screen was doing;
• an email address, only if you type one in, so we can reply to you;
• the anonymous device identifier described above.

You can delete your own report from inside the app, and that removes it and any screenshot attached to it. Reports are used to fix faults and are never used for advertising.

To provide its features, Selective Teacher may ask for the following device capabilities. Each one is requested by iOS at the moment it is first needed, and refusing any of them leaves the rest of the app working.

Four measurement services are present, covering product analytics, app analytics, advertising measurement, and conversion measurement. None of them receives your answers, your photographs, the AI output written for you, or the content of a shared question.

* You can change your tracking choice at any time in iOS Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Tracking. We do not sell your data, and we never send an advertising partner the content of anything you create in Selective Teacher.

Here is every kind of outside service the app contacts, and why.

• Our cloud platform — issues the anonymous device identity, runs the AI and sharing services from our Australian region, and serves the app's configuration.
• Our AI providers — they turn a question, an answer or a photograph into the practice material, explanation or narration you asked for. We may use more than one, and which one handles a request can change.
• Our file storage — stores the photographs and generated content of questions you choose to share, and any screenshot you attach to a bug report. Neither sits on a public web address.
• Measurement services — the analytics and advertising measurement described above.
• Apple — App Store distribution, in-app purchases, and the text recognition and parent-lock features that run on your device.

We do not sell personal data. Beyond the services listed above, nothing about you is shared with anyone.

Selective Teacher is rated for general audiences (Education) and is not directed to children under 13.

Selective Teacher is a study aid for students, and the grown-up actions — sharing a question, changing settings, and purchases — sit behind a parent lock. There is no sign-up, so we hold no child's name or email address. Because a shared question is the only thing other users can see, nothing is published without a person reviewing it first, and a share carries no author identity.

Depending on what Selective Teacher keeps, your control works like this:

• Withdraw a shared question: you can take back anything you shared, and it disappears from the feed immediately.
• Delete a bug report: your own reports can be deleted inside the app, along with any screenshot attached to them.
• Reset the device identity: clearing the app's data or deleting the app ends the link to your records. Email us if you want the server record erased, and we will remove it.
• Clear your progress: deleting the app removes your practice history and results from your device.
• No marketing profile: we do not build an advertising profile of you, and we do not sell anything about you.

Because there is no name or email address attached to this app, we cannot find you from your details alone. If you contact us about a specific record, we will work with you to identify it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect improvements in Selective Teacher or legal updates. Any change is published on this page with a new "Effective Date" shown at the top.

This version is effective from September 25, 2026. Earlier versions are available on request from the address in the next section.
